Transport is both a key issue and a major challenge for Sutherland. Effective transport links are critical to Sutherland’s future development. Sutherland is large in area, but limited in population terms. Its transport options are therefore limited.

To realise, fully, the opportunities which will allow Sutherland to grow and prosper there is a need to promote and deliver a range of transport solutions and improvements. Such solutions and changes will support the rural economy; attract visitors; improve access to goods and services; and ultimately contribute to the promotion of more sustainable rural communities.

The Sutherland Partnership Transport Group produced the Transport Vision for Sutherland in 2007. The Sutherland Partnership acknowledges the generous support of Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise in the publication of this document.
