Theme 10 A greener future
Exploration of innovative ways to power vehicles from renewable sources is a top priority in this theme. The development of greater community benefit from renewable energy is also a feature. However, the enhancement of habitat networks and the enjoyment and celebration of the natural heritage are equally important within this theme.
A list of actions of the Development and Action Plan gives more details of the actions identified and those being carried out.
Wild North Festival
A pilot festival to celebrate and promote the rich natural heritage of the north highlands is due to be held from 29 September to 14 October 2012. The Sutherland Partnership is a member of the project steering group and the aim is to establish an annual festival.
Golspie Community Power
Golspie Community Power secured funding to appoint a Development Officer in 2011 and work is progressing to develop a small scale hydro scheme at the Big Burn.
A multi-million pound project is being planned to restore and conserve the peatland habitat of the Flows. As well as conservation the project will create a world class visitor attraction providing information on the peatlands, the species that flourish there and the importance of peat as a carbon sink.
